Approaches to Learning
A person’s way of learning is defined by Howard Gardner’s theory of ‘Multiple Intelligences’.
Learning Literacy incorporates Gardner’s methodology in tutoring students, as it not only employs a student’s natural learning responses, it engages the student by engendering enjoyment and confidence in the learning process.
The use of this methodology along with other strategies, caters to the different needs and individual learning styles that each student has in developing literacy skills and content knowledge in their studies.
We often talk about our children being talented in a certain area. For instance, ‘an excellent writer’, or ‘fantastic at sports’. In the former case, the child would have a strength in learning through Linguistic Intelligence and in the latter case, the child would have a strength in Bodily - Kinesthetic Intelligence.
Identifying which type of ‘Intelligence’ through which a student mainly learns, then facilitating learning within this type of Intelligence is a great method of teaching knowledge and skills to a student.
Individual Learning Themes
A student may be strong in one area or subject, but need help in other areas.
We are not all experts in everything we do!
It is crucial that a student's learning is facilitated in a manner that meets the needs of the student and interests them.
Learning Literacy can provide Individual Learning Themes which relate to a student's interests. This individualised course will engage the student while developing skills, knowledge and concepts, ensuring the student is sufficiently challenged.
Individual Learning Themes may enhance some students' learning experience.
